Messaging

It’s simple, your brand begins speaking to your guests before they have a chance to step inside. The words you choose, whether they’re as big as a billboard or as small as an Instagram caption, are your first impression. As business gets more crowded and tools make it easier than ever to churn out quick content, clear messaging has become a true differentiator. Strong hospitality brands are not simply louder than the rest: they develop a voice and use it effectively.

Specificity Cuts Through the Noise

Safe language fades into the background. Phrases like “modern comfort food” or “luxury apartments” are familiar but rarely memorable. They do little to explain why one concept matters more than the next.

Effective messaging makes clear choices driven by personality. Focus on a core customer, the person you’ve built this concept for, and speak directly to them.  Rather than trying to explain every aspect of your offering, focus on the ideas that truly define your brand and lean into the sides of your personality other businesses aren’t.

Speak Like A Customer

As automated content becomes more commonplace, human voice becomes cherished and a sign of craft. Guests can sense when copy feels generic or overly polished, and for many, it can fully turn off a customer from your business. Hospitality is defined by human connection, and your messaging should show your care for experience through every sentence.

A strong brand voice isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, rather picture it like a bespoke suit to the services you provide and customers you want. It should carry a clear point of view and remain consistent across menus, signage, and social channels. When words align with your vibe or atmosphere, trust will follow.

Messaging Is The Glue of Every Good Design

Messaging is not separate from design. It works alongside visuals, space, and service to shape how guests perceive your brand. The length of a sentence, the simplicity of a phrase, and the decision to say less or more all influence the experience.

Every touchpoint matters when a guest is investing in their experience. Menu descriptions, packaging, and small in-store moments reinforce the story you are telling, and show a level of care beyond the basics. When messaging goes beyond the expected, and is treated with the same care as the rest of your work, it's a signifier that your business is truly unique.

In hospitality, words are not decoration.  Instead, they can work in tandem with the rest of your service if given the right amount of care. Thoughtful messaging cuts through the noise, meets your customer at their level, and ties together every piece of your project.
